Edmund Goodridge and John Noyes, Jr., were given permission, June 22, 1708,
to set up a sawmill on Cart Creek. The mill was located just upstream from
the tidal portion of the creek. The nearby woods came to be known as "Sawmill
Woods." Little is known about the subsequent history of the mill. The mill
dam has long since washed out and only a pile of stones indicate its location.
