Biodiversity
The Parker River Clean Water Association
(PRCWA) has always been a strong advocate of promoting the many species
of wildlife that dwell in our watershed. Many areas in our basin
are considered Priority Habitat by the Natural Heritage &
Endangered Species Program (NHESP). A listing of rare flora
& fauna can be found on the NHESP web
site by town.
PRCWA has co-sponsored a Biodiversity Celebration at the
Mass Audubon's Joppa Flats Education Center (Below) for the last
several years. It is a fun-filled family day event
held in June honoring the many types of plants and animals in our area.
All activities are free.
Promoting biodiversity can also be a big part of land protection.
In May of 2003 PRCWA held a biodiversity day event for the
residents of Georgetown prior to a town meeting vote for the
acquisition of 45 acres of eco-sensitive land located near the town
well fields. Over 50 residents, town and State officials joined
our staff and volunteer naturalists for a wonderful tour through the
trails of the area called, "Hampshire Woods."
Have an area in your town that you think is worth protecting? Let
us know. We will be glad to help!
